GlassFish : The Application Server for all Your Web Apps

In Computers, Databases, Hot News, Latest Technology, My Reviews, NetBeans, Open Source, Sun Microsystems, Technology Events on February 5, 2009 at 1:18 am

Fabulous February started with a Live webcast from California. I agreed to my Invitation to attend the event. It was a wednesday (3/2/09)evening, when I had to review my Laptop for Java Updates and other stuffs for the event. The event was about to begin at 10PM and I launched  my browser and found Mr. Aruna Gupta, GlassFish Evangelist, Sun Microsystems, welcoming the session attendees. It was a great pleasure for me to  attend the Webinar and I thank Mr. Arun Gupta for his talk on GlassFish. I have blogged all about GlassFish which I have carried as notes after the session. I found GlassFish interesting and this Webinar has changed my Application Server from Apache to Glassfish in deploying all my scripts.

GlassFish
GlassFish

GlassFish is a vibrant community building high-quality, open source software. The main deliverable are the GlassFish application server, the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition(java EE) reference implementation, and the Java Persistence API reference implementation.

Developing Server based Application with the help of clear application specification of Java EE 5 helps us to deploy the application with 100% uptime. The Glassfish which is built on the Java EE compliance is portable. Java EE 5 has API, Technology specification, Production-quality implementation, Comptability Test Suite, themed on ease of development. Here POJO ( Plain Old Java Object) based programming gives us more freedom and fewer requirement in implementation level. The Latest inclusion DRY( Don’t Repeat Yourself) mechanism allows all the connection strings of the database from the application level to be kept in a songle file making debugging easier and faster access.

The latest Call Flow Monitoring allows us to enable the monitoring of the app server to track the time spent on the EJB Container, Web Container, and EJB Application and lots more enabling us to improve the performance. There is a special Request Time Distribution column showing the time spent on each requests.

Plan for GlassFish V3

GlassFish v3 is the next major release of the GlassFish Application Server and is currently under development by the GlassFish Community. GlassFish v3 has a modular, lightweight, extensible architecture. The goals are to provide the following:

  • An open, modular, extensible platform
  • A fast, easy, reliable application server
  • An enterprise-ready application server with massive scalability and sophisticated administration
  • Product updates and add-ons through the industry-strength
  • Support for OSGi

InternetBus Project : Explore the World of Internet

In Automobiles, Computers, Hot News, INDIA, Latest Technology, LiveCast, My Reviews, Nation, Open Source, Technology Events on February 4, 2009 at 11:29 pm

We probably know Google from the products on the Internet, like Google Search, Gmail, Orkut and Google Maps. Soon, they may even visit a town near you, to give you a first hand experience of what the Internet has to offer you.

The Internet Bus Project is an attempt educate people about what the Internet is, and how it may be beneficial to their lives, by taking the Internet experience to them through a customised Internet-enabled bus, which will travel to several towns and cities across India.

The bus started at Chennai recently and there was lots of people who realised the essence of the work carried out by Google and supported it. Due to the problem in Srilanka, the local goverment here at Chennai declared bandth and the roads were left with none. If this has not happened now, Iam sure that this project would have reached a wider audience.

Fortunately Google have planned this project to take place in every town in the state and the Internet Bus is now on the roads heading straight to vellore. I am sure that people and fellow students at vellore will be able to make use of this event to realise and Explore the World of Internet.

Man. I thought the Web Developer extension for Firefox was extremely cool, but this very useful add-on to the world’s best browser is an even better equipped toolbox for front-end developers. You can tweak every little code detail right from the browser and see the results instantly. I found the option to temporarily disable individual lines of CSS code to be very useful. A must have for web designers.

WANTED TECH GURU

tech-guru

Every once in a while ideas pop into my head. I can’t help it. Most are crap, but some warrant further investigation. Problem is that I do not have the technical knowledge to look into some of them and create proof-of-concept type applications. I’m pretty good with WordPress and Scripting, and Database development. One of my ideas would require using the Google Maps API for instance, others need somewhat sophisticated database operations or SMS interaction, or… who knows.

What I’ve been looking for for a while now is someone to collaborate with on these concepts, brainstorm about them and -if we feel there’s something to them- go ahead and realize them. This, of course, is not a job offer. Chances are you’ll never make a dime, but there’s also a slim chance we’d be the next Twitter, or even the next YouTube. So if you’re into PHP (Ruby?), javascript, and like exploring new technical developments, contact me. Who knows what it’ll lead to.

In Hot News, Latest Technology, LiveCast, Mobile, My Reviews, NetBeans on December 14, 2008 at 4:32 pm

I recently purchased Nokia 3110 classic. After a tough inquiry on various models of phones, I decided to get Nokia 3110. I feel the model more convincing for various reason as it comprises maximum features and the cost is much better. I love to deploy Java Mobile Application and I was really exicted to look into the specification and found that 3110 was java enabled. I started to write java codes for my model and started to deploy them. Let me list out the specification of this model…check this out…..

Take a look at the 2 pictures and let us know “Do you think the Nokia 3110 Classic should be called REBORN.

3110 - a way back

Its time for Sans Review….

I will suggest that Nokia 3110c as the best buy in the market, as it has all the built-in features. According to me Nokia is known for its durability and good battery backup. I wish that, everyone can opt for Nokia 3110c rather than other models as on today’s market analysis. I consider to look into the specifications of this model and request you to compare wih the latest model outset, and make a BEST BUY.

Googling It – 2008 Hot List

In Computers, Hot News, INDIA, LiveCast, Mobile, My Reviews on December 11, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Sans Review

I was moved with the latest release of ” Top searches of 2008″ from Google. The Summit was based on a yearly search statistic carried by Google India.  NDTV recently published these statistics, on behalf of Google. As Information forming the integral part of every person’s daily life, companies like Google needs to record the exact mindset (need) of their customers. There are 60,million users surfing in India, variably there are  66 million cable tv user. The impact of media and Information Technology, in today’s fast changing world shows the collective mindset of the people. The country (INDIA) has grown really International as  the quality of search being carried by the people reflects this.

Google reported, Social networking sites are beating e-mail sites. This issue is because communication has become more integral part of every citizen. Indian’s are very social. Social networking ratings in the Google Hit list shows that, the sites such as Orkut, Facebook serves an efficient way of communication. People in India, at early mornings are more inclined towards checking their mailboxes, hence there is more traffic in E-mail sites, whereas in evenings people are inclined towards social networking sites and entertaining searches such as “Katrina Kaif”, eventually losing their sleep 🙂

There have been a large Indian’s putting a good show through their mobile searches. Having 300 million people using mobiles, Google releases the top mobile searches. These include

Orkut, yahoo
Wap tricks
Gmail
Katrina kaif, etc…

There has been a passion towards Information, in the recent past and people have a collective opinion on all areas as these statistics reflect the Nation’s true mindset. I was shocked by seeing some new faces into the top search list of 2008 as south Indian actress Namitha is into the top 10 searches and there are people who are really consistent in the search list since 2006, they are Mahatma Gandhi, Sachin Tendulkar, Sania Mirza.

These results really show how people have refined in using internet and these stats prove, how efficiently they search. I do believe that, information retrieval will become more sophisticated in the days to come as people have started using their mobile phones efficiently and I hope with the arrival of 3G phones, video searches in mobile phones will be more popular and sites like Youtube will make a revolution in the search history.

Some of the other search terms which marked its presence in the “Top 10” were

how to lose weight
how to gain weight
what is global warming
what is internet
what is computer
where the mind is without fear
why did i get married

Microsoft TechVista 2008 @ Chennai

In Technology Events on November 2, 2008 at 9:42 pm

The Chennai Convention Centre at Nandambakkam near Airport was all set to witness the event. 1500 was the expected audience who were brought to the hall by charted tour buses. MSR indeed took care of each and everyone who showed interest in attending the program. It was a day that answered thousands of questions in the minds of young people who were hesitant to pursue research as a career. It was a day when the field of Computer Science was celebrated like a festival.

Dr. P.Anandan from MSR, started the show by speaking in Tamil and telling the audience that he is a person from Chennai and it was great for him to have TechVista hosted in Chennai. Chennai is indeed privileged to have such great researchers who have given their life for the betterment of life of others to come down and talk to the novice Academic crowd. Dr. Anandan gave a brief introduction to the program and gave us an insight of TechVista that have happened in the past. This is the first time this event is happening in Chennai and it witnessed a huge turn over. It was launched by the Director of IITM.

During the inaugural function, Mr. Adithya Sankar demonstrated the power of Photosynth, a Research product that was developed by Live Labs. In this process, the MSR wanted to have a native touch and demonstrated the technology with the Srivilliputur, Sri Andal Temple. The technology was an eye opener for most of the audience and was indeed the right way to kick start the day.

Session 1: The Session 1 consisted of lectures by Prof. John Hopcroft, Richard Szeliski and Prof. Shafi Goldwasser.

Talk by Prof. John Hopcroft:

It was indeed a pleasure to listen to his talk. Datas are present all around us be it in the web, satellite information etc. But how to tame these data was the glimpse given to the audience by his inspirational talk. He did throw light on a lot of youngsters who were craving to pursue research. It was a seed for me to take up my higher studies to sharpen my knowledge. He gave a real time example of how a bird’s location is tracked in the world and its applications in the field of Weather forecasting, hurricane direction prediction etc.

Talk by Dr. Richard Szeliski:

Dr. Richard’s presentation was speaking about the field of Computer vision and it was indeed a pleasure to listen to him. He made all our blind folded thoughts reach a clarity by speaking about how the technology of photosynth came to shape and how it works internally. This was indeed a beautiful presentation and it became the darling of all masses as it podcasted some of the un seen content which were soothing to the eyes too.

Talk by Prof. Shafi Goldwasser:

Security is not just a need today but has become a science by itself. How to improve security by the method of obfuscation was discussed in this mind blowing session which people can understand provided they have domain knowledge of what security and Cryptography actually is. This was a sizzling talk for those who aspire to be an expert in information security. Her talk gave us an insight of what all should not be done when considering security as an issue. Obfuscation means making things complex but resulting in the same output without changing the functionality of the code.

Session 2: The Session was a series of talk given by Richard Rashid, Prof. Shree K Nayar and Vijay Chandru.

Talk by Rick Rashid:

Rick’s talk was showcasing the various research products from Microsoft Research labs across the world. The masterpiece was World wide telescope that allows us to have the entire view of the galaxy like the view from the telescope. His talk also included a research product Boku – Simplified programming for Kids in which they can create their own games without having much of computer knowledge. This was really attractive too. He also spoke about the live traffic suggestion system that is a brilliant product by itself.

Talk by Prof. Shree K Nayar:

What you see is different from What you like to see? This was clearly explained to us by the inspirational talk by Prof. Shree Nayar. A lot of us understood the fact that Camera isn’t just a device that captures still photographs but the one that can be taken as a challenge and re engineered to make experience reach better shape. The Wide angle camera that was used for the video conferencing in which 4 people can do the conf with one camera was really attractive. Design of 4π camera that is considered as a challenge was also explained in this speech. This was an eye opener for a lot of the audience.

Talk by Vijay Chandru:

Strand’s life sciences is a company that deals with the field of Computational biology. Vijay Chandru Sir delivered a brilliant Session that would have inculcated a feeling in the mind of the listeners that Computers were invented to facilitate the biological problems that we are facing today. Its applications in the field of Medicine, Surgery and cure of Cancer, HIV were all discussed in this talk.
